SANCHEZ HERNANDO
THINKER OF FANTASIES
Bogotá DC Colombia, September 22, 1961.
Contemporary artist who recreates the past. It is a figure of contemporary art that is gaining strongly in the artistic world. As if it were an operator of Rencimiento, Hernando Sanchez did not want to be pigeonholed into a single concept but expressing their ideas in sculptures, paintings, drawings and engravings. He does not mind experimenting with shapes, chiaroscuro and materials and welcome, with pleasure, all the influences that come from outside. His works blend myth, fantasy and reality in all dimensions of time and space.
Hernando Sanchez has spent years painting and sculpting works but since the early 80's when it starts to show his work in Colombia, first, and in other European and Latin American countries later. Alternating work with university education in areas of painting, sculpture and drawing, also director of undergraduate thesis. In 1990 completely abandoned the teaching of art and is devoted entirely to his artistic production.
The artist evokes in his representations ages and teachers who have been affected. In his works, it shows a love for art in general. Get caught by the graphic information will come from all over the world and invade us from the media. All this is reflected in murals that care do not forget the classic paths of glory and times of extravagance. "... Pemanecen quiet spaces, geometric harmony, expectant things happen, gallops, sublimation, questions, memories. Where can engender a great deal. As happens in sacred spaces, stable only in the field of imagination, between the notions of afuerra and notions from within, consciously or unconsciously. Actions or the adventures are unthinkable in such places, because it can not happen anything and everything can happen and things are unchanged, they are just watching for the overwhelming blow to mute light and wake up even more mystery. Concentrated areas tends to expand the basis of their supernatural motion, but at the same time, these areas are deeply dense real and which are defined between the columns, arches, altars and revealing bodies; fleeting burst relentless in search of a material importance, in the eyes astonishment of the gentlemen of the time and the divine alchemist ... "
His works reveal an iconography of historical research, we remosta to classical times. In the end, what remains is a series of concepts skillfully blended with contemporary figures and where time becomes an essential element that occupies its own space. The artist invites us to reflect with archetypal figures, which denounce the evil as an option to virtue. The result is a set full of power that traps the beholder.
